Chapter 1 from The Guy...
There is one major thing that appeals to every guy within Chapter 1 of Twilight. Can you guess what that is?

            Intrigue.

No, not the sort that arises from the question, “Why is Bella so whiny? It was her choice to move to Forks and yet she’s crying herself to sleep?” and “She must obviously be more attractive than she claims to be…every guy in Forks wouldn’t be interested in her…” I mean, hey, Edward Cullen stiffened up real quick when he saw her.

Nope, not that at all, I’m talking about the intrigue that comes from this family we first see in the cafeteria…The Cullens. “What the hell is their problem?” Is the question we ask. I mean, we know they’re vampires, but why is Edward such an a$$hole from the very beginning? Couldn’t he have at least said hello to her in Biology? He’s rather rude and standoffish. (If you’ll notice he is throughout all the books, not just in the first chapter, but that’s not the point.)

It is that thing that keeps us reading. Guys, just like anyone else, like vampires. The more intelligent of us realize that there isn’t a single vampire story in print that doesn’t involve romance to some extent. It’s simply unavoidable. Vampires are always sexual. It is that sort of anticipation, coupled with the intrigue that the Cullen’s provide, that keeps us reading to the next chapter.

...even if we don't quite understand the narrator...

I agree that it strikes up the reader's curiousity.
